I always work on lots of paintings at the same time. One of which is this one a new larger painting on canvas rather than the wooden surfaces I’ve been using lately.

Unlike wood which provides a stable ground a canvas surface is more unpredictable as the paint finds the lowest point.

I’m building two mounds of paint both of which are too liquid to tilt at the moment. I need to be patient…

I’m creating a new series of abstract paintings

I’m creating a new series of abstract paintings at the larger size of 50x50cm square. I find the initial preparation and priming phase becomes a kind of a dance and enjoy the time this repetitive process gives me to think.

I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can push the three dimensionality of my paintings on a larger scale. Especially on the wooden panels which offer a firmer less compromising surface than canvas. Let’s hope the paint holds tight!

In a nutshell my work is about what’s on the ins

In a nutshell my work is about what’s on the inside versus what’s on the outside. My paintings range from strange creature-like forms with attitude to 3d abstract paintings with taught distended skins.

Occasionally they work together and here’s an example. The creature All ears is on the left and the abstract painting Still is on the right. All ears was awarded Highly Commended in the Rise Art Prize in 2018 and Still is as shiny and distended as it was when it was made in the same year.
