Contemporary paintings of creatures with attitude and three dimensional abstract works. Fabrica Brighton 2026, The London Group Open 2025.

It feels like a bit of a dance sometimes between m It feels like a bit of a dance sometimes between me and the mass of paint. This one is large for me at 50x50cm and needs careful handling if I’m going to keep it contained, so far so good…

Very happy to say I’ve just sold these two paintin Very happy to say I’ve just sold these two paintings through Rise Art, a big thanks to them and the buyer, it is much appreciated.

My paintings of creatures start by pouring paint into pools with no preconceived starting point and the most interesting areas are worked into, bringing the forms to life. The surface of the paintings is important with sags and bulges suggesting wrinkled skin and imperfections that are embraced proudly. The creatures are feisty, challenging and wilful, their attitude is key. Characters who are happy to wear their heart on their sleeve.

These two are titled Wonder and Ruminate and are less feisty than most, but strong on thoughtfulness, consideration and reflection. Quieter power.

Resonance at Fabrica in Brighton is now open and i Resonance at Fabrica in Brighton is now open and it’s looking amazing! It’s wonderful to be showing amongst such strong work and it has been curated beautifully.

My painting is on a wall amongst some great pieces. Pictured are: @vickygomezprintmaker

Ianto Williams

There are some really lovely moments too, such as this angle which appears to show my piece spilling paint, but it is Caroline Bartlett’s piece in the background with falling threads.

There are so many highlights I could include, here are a few that caught my eye…

One of my favourite galleries in Brighton is Fabri One of my favourite galleries in Brighton is Fabrica, which this year is celebrating 30 years at the heart of Brighton. I’m so excited that I’ve been selected to show in Resonance, a dynamic group exhibition featuring artists from across the UK.

“The exhibition explores what echoes across time, place, and community - what lingers, returns, and shapes us. From painting and sculpture to installation and mixed media, works come together in Fabrica’s striking former church space, inviting you to experience how art can resonate beyond the moment.”

I’m showing a new painting, Fringe. Sculptural protrusions in my three-dimensional paintings conceal anxiety and unease within impermeable shells, creating protective forms that hold quiet emotional resonance.

The show runs from Saturday 4th until Sunday 19th April and is open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Fabrica, 40 Duke Street, Brighton BN1 1AG. All welcome, free entry.

Thank you to the judges, curators, and exhibition partner Sussex Contemporary.

Excited to be exhibiting in The First Round Proper Excited to be exhibiting in The First Round Proper at BLOC projects, Sheffield alongside some great artists in April. The show is in two parts and is curated by
@a_bell_is_a_cup
Stephen Carley @carley.stephen
Kate Jacob @k8jacob1
and Sean Williams @swseanwilliams

I’ll be in The First Half which runs from 6th-14th April, The Second Half will be from 17th-25th April. The show is concerned with the question of painting. What is this thing called painting in 2026?

Painting is not; doing the right thing.
Painting is not; designed to impress.
Painting is not; his or hers.
Painting is; a breath on a mirror, a footprint, grease on a towel, blood on a stone, damp wallpaper, torn advertising, meaningless graffiti, melting snow, dead leaves, weathered paint, broken
windows, neglected gardens, a cry, a smile, a scream, defacement on defacement.
John Hoyland.

On edge. A new painting I’ve been wrestling with f On edge. A new painting I’ve been wrestling with for a long time, which feels finally there. Shaped by the current state of the world and the unease and anxieties it brings. I’ve tried to be looser with this painting, tipping the balance against control, instead trying to let it breathe.

The three-dimensional form gives strength and resilience, slowly built and prepared for the unexpected. Still capable of being squashed but resolutely resilient…

I’m beginning to understand plaster a little bette I’m beginning to understand plaster a little better and it’s been fun to combine it with some bold glossy paint. I now have lots of these small pieces and am editing them down to get a little collection that work together, ready for @onetotengallery in February.

At first I was trying to create “perfect” shapes but soon realised it’s the cracks and imperfections that interest me more…

I’ve been experimenting with plaster lately and tr I’ve been experimenting with plaster lately and trying to understand it a little more. Getting ideas for very small sculptural work for @onetotengallery next year. It feels a little like cooking, searching for the right mix and the right conditions, needless to say, I’m taking lots of notes! I’m looking forward to combining the lovely matt surface with glossy paint…

Very pleased to have a couple of recent paintings Very pleased to have a couple of recent paintings selected for Thrown Contemporary’s Winter show. The online exhibition @throwncontemporary launches at 7pm GMT on Thursday, 27th November, and brings together original art, design, and craft. Once it’s open, I’ll include a link in my bio. In the meantime, please see the last image for a preview of some of the amazing work in the exhibition.

I’ll be showing two paintings from my continuing series of Creature paintings, including this one, Joker. A creature that is feisty, challenging, and wilful. Mischievously unpredictable.
